We all want our homes to smell delicious, especially around the holidays! There's nothing better than walking into your warm home from the outdoors and catching hints of cranberry, cinnamon and pine. It's such a cozy and inviting feeling. But it's no secret that our health is greatly impacted by the things we breathe, drink, eat, put on our bodies and spend time around, and air fresheners are no exception to this. Things like room sprays, plug-ins and candles are extremely toxic to your health. They're full of SO many damaging chemicals.

Artificial fragrance is one of the most dangerous neurotoxins, and it can be found in pretty much everything. When we say neurotoxin, we mean that artificial fragrance can actually damage, impair and/or totally destroy the neurons in your brain. When this happens, it alters your brains ability to transmit and process signals properly. Artificial fragrance has also been linked to respiratory issues such as asthma, hormone disruption, allergies, birth defects and cancers; specifically breast, prostate and ovarian cancer due to the disruption of the endocrine system.

There are many ways to keep your house smelling nice. Things like diffusers with therapeutic grade essential oils, beeswax candles (we love Rowe Casa Organics and Fontana Candle Co.!), and simmer pots. A super cost effective and healthy option is a homemade room spray! Below are a few of our favorite recipes.

We love to spray our room sprays on our rugs before vacuuming. Not only does it keep the rugs smelling fresh, but it pulls a long lasting aroma into the air too! Feel free to leave any essential oils out of the recipes that you don't love, but make sure you have at least 60 drops in each bottle. Enjoy your non-toxic, fresh smelling, holiday home!
