When we say that you need to declutter every square inch of your house, we mean it! Every small space that you declutter, clean, organize and decorate really does start to create big change! Often times you'll find that the little spaces we don't always pay attention to are usually where all of the "junk" ends up. We tend to shove things in drawers, in closets, in baskets...you name it. And we tell ourselves things like, I'll just put this here "for now". That's how clutter becomes a problem. When we take the time to declutter, clean and organize those spaces, it really does make your home as a whole feel better.
That's why today we're going to be decluttering the medicine cabinet! It may seem silly or not worth your time, but trust us, when you open that cabinet up in the morning and you see everything in it's place and you can actually find what you're looking for, it will make all the difference! So let's get started.

Step 1: Empty It Out
Take every single thing out of your cabinet. If you want to make it easier, you can declutter as you remove the items. Want a simple way to do this? Create three piles. A trash pile, everything you want to throw out goes here. So for example, expired things, things you don't use, prescriptions you no longer need or gadgets that no longer work. Next, a keep pile, things you know for sure you like and use consistently. And lastly, a donate pile, anything that you no longer use that still works or could be useful to someone else. Once everything is out and sorted, move to the next step.
Step 2: Clean
This step is super easy! Just use a non-toxic cleaner to wipe out the cabinet. Make sure you remove anything sticky, gooey or gross! You can check out our other blog here for our homemade cleaner recipe.
Step 3: Sort
Once you've created your piles and cleaned out the cabinet, it's time to sort your items. The goal here is to put "like" things together. For example, all of your "pain" items together, all of your "sinus" items together, all of your "cold and flu" items together. Then once it's sorted, you can move on to organizing everything back into the cabinet!
Step 4: Organize
This step can look a few different ways. You can either place the items back into the cabinet in their "groups" as they are. Or you can get some organizers if your cabinet has room for that. If you go the organizers route, we recommend looking for little baskets, or clear plastic organizers that you can put labels on! That way it's super easy to find everything you're looking for and it's all in once place.
Decluttering the Toxic
Of course you want to go through your medicine cabinet so everything is orderly, organized and easy to find what you're looking for. But this is also a really good chance to get rid of the toxic stuff a lot of us have and have unfortunately normalized having. A lot of our medications, creams, supplements and other items in our medicine cabinets contain a LOT of toxic chemicals that can and do majorly impact our bodily functions and the systems in our bodies.
Did you know most common household "pain" medicines have been linked to issues like dizziness, rash, itching, shortness of breath and even liver disease? In our homes we like to use whole food products that REALLY work and have no side effects. We love Relief by Rowe Casa. And we also like to use Prana by Leefy. If you use code "refine" you can get some money off!
Also many household "cold and flu" medicines have side effects like upset stomach, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, drowsiness, constipation and anxiousness. Again, for this we like using whole food products that work and have no side effects. We LOVE using herbal teas. Try making a tea with manuka honey, lemon, star anise and fresh ginger. We'll share that recipe on our Instagram soon! It works wonders! We also love using elderberry from Rowe Casa and elderberry syrup from TC Elderberry!
The list goes on and on, there are tons of "swaps" you can make that are much healthier for you. If you're wondering what other swaps we use and love, shoot us a DM on Instagram! We're happy to share.

In Closing
It may seem silly to organize your medicine cabinet, or it may also seem like it won't make much of a difference, but like we said previously, the smaller things do add up to big things. Once you begin organizing all of the small spaces in your home, you'll notice you'll start feeling better and better with each little organized space. And in our opinion, it's much easier to tackle the small places like your medicine cabinet first! Clear out the clutter and the "toxic" and see how good you start to feel.
